Each physician is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and sub-specialty boarded in Pain Medicine.  Our board-certified nurse practitioners always consult with the attending physician prior to working with each patient in order to provide informed, consistent care at all times.  Patient's always have the final choice in their care and who they chose to follow up with.

Andrew Konen, M.D.

Dr. Andrew Konen, M.D.  founded Konen and Associates PA, pain management group in 1999.  The group is recognized as one of the premier pain management practices in the country.  Their primary location is at the Baylor Center for Pain Management in downtown Dallas, Texas.  Baylor University Medical Center is the largest private teaching hospital in the country.  Dr. Konen is recognized as one of the foremost experts in interventional pain management treatment options.  He has developed new techniques and treatment strategies for chronic intractable headaches and has been recognized many years over as a D Magazine top physician in his specialty.  He has also been selected by the consumer research Council of America as one of the top physicians in America by reports from his own patients.

He is a graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas where he graduated with honors.  He received his medical degree from the Texas A&M College of Medicine with post-doctoral training at Baylor University Medical Center and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas in anesthesiology and pain management.  Dr. Konen was accepted into the premier fellowship training program, directly after residency, at Texas Tech University Medical Center.  He studied under doctors Gabor Racz, Sr. and Prithvi Raj D., the founding fathers of the specialty of pain management. 

In medical school he received the Bard Parker award for the most outstanding surgical student achieving the top percentile on standardized examination.  During internship, he received the J. Billy Wood award for most outstanding intern.  He was elected as chief resident by his peers during residency training and was chosen as a citizen of the month by KRLD radio station.

He has published many articles and developed new techniques especially in the area of headache management.  He was the first to describe and publish an article regarding the reflex from the interaction between the trigeminal nerve and the sphenopalatine ganglion.

Dr. Konen is the medical director for the Baylor Center for Pain Management.  He is a clinical professor of pain management for Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine where he regularly teaches the medical students and residents at Baylor University Medical Center the current therapies and advances in pain management.  He also serves as a hedge fund advisor for mid-cap biotech and research firms.  He developed the first and only commercially available natural and herbal liquid pain 

Brian Flanagan, M.D.

 Brian Flanagan, M.D. is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and Tulane University Medical School.  He received his post-doctoral training at Baylor University Medical Center and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.  He completed his fellowship training in interventional pain management at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock, Texas.  Dr. Flanagan is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and board certified in Pain Medicine.  He has been named one of the best doctors in Dallas by D Magazine and also by US News World Report.  He has been in practice for 15 years.  He is well respected by both his patients and other physicians for his ability to treat a wide array of painful conditions.  He has helped thousands of patients improve their quality of life for the long term. 

David Keelen, M.D.


Dr. David Keelen, M.D., a diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology and subspecialty boarded  in  pain medicine, has joined the staff of Konen and Associates and Baylor Center for Pain Management with offices in Dallas and Frisco, Texas.

One of only a handful of physicians in the country uniquely trained in intrathecal therapy with a micro dosing strategy, Dr. Keelen offers patients with chronic pain an array of treatment options to help restore their quality of life with long-term success.

He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where he graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 grade point average in cellular and molecular biology. He then pursued his medical training at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas, where he graduated as a Doctor of Medicine. He then completed his internship and residency in anesthesiology at UTMB and is a diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology. He completed his training with a fellowship in interventional pain medicine at UTMB.

He is a specialist in the treatment of numerous pain syndromes including chronic neck and back pain, post-laminectomy syndrome, nerve pain, arthritis and muscular pain. Dr. Keelen is dedicated to the success of his patients. He is a compassionate physician who believes in a goal-directed approach to management. He treats each patient as an individual and tailors their therapy accordingly. 


Dr Daltry Dott, MD

Dr. Dott is triple board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management by the American Board of Anesthesiology, and Basic Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography. She specializes in treating complex chronic pain syndromes, including back, neck, and joint pain; complex regional pain syndrome; as well as other types of pain. Dr. Dott utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to help individualize treatment plans and provide comprehensive and compassionate care to each patient.  Dr. Dott specializes in interventional treatments, such as spinal cord stimulation, epidural and facet injections, radiofrequency ablation, and sympathetic blocks.   Dr. Dott earned her undergraduate degree at The University of Texas at Austin and graduated with honors. While in medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Society for her exemplary leadership, academic achievement, and compassionate care. She completed her internship, residency in Anesthesiology, and fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and was elected to serve as Chief Resident during her final year of residency. She also received multiple awards commending her outstanding patient care and knowledge in multiple areas of anesthesiology during her training.

Douglas Maxey, M.D.


Douglas Maxey, MD is a board certified anesthesiologist and a fellowship trained, board certified interventional pain management specialist located at the Frisco office. He strives to provide his patients with unparalleled care and uses an individualized approach to the management of pain.  He believes that optimizing physical functioning is a vital part of relieving pain and regaining a productive life.  He performs a variety of interventional procedures and was one of the first physicians in the DFW area to be trained on Dorsal Root Ganglion (DRG) stimulation therapy.

Dr. Maxey attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his pain medicine fellowship during which he was trained in advanced pain therapies and interventional techniques.  Prior to fellowship training, he completed his anesthesiology residency at Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center.  Dr. Maxey is a member of multiple professional societies and has made several presentations to his peers.  

Dr. Maxey is proud to call Texas home.  He enjoys spending time with family, skiing, travelling, playing guitar, and rooting for the Cowboys.

Amir Alavi, D.O.

 Dr. Alavi is  a graduate of the University of North Texas Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed his residency in anesthesia and fellowship in pain medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital through the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY.  There he served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesia and practiced a combination of private practice and academic based anesthesia and pain medicine.  Dr. Alavi is board certified in both anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology and is committed to offering his patients the world's most advanced treatments.  His practice is based on a multidisciplinary approach which allows him to tailor his treatment plans to meet the specific needs of each patient. 

Sarah Byers, MSN, RN, FNP-C

Merceline Obuong FNP-C (Marcy).

 Is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner.  She began her career in health care  in 2005 as a RN with an Associates degree in Nursing from Grayson County college in Sherman Texas. As a nurse,  she worked in different acute care settings including Cardiology, Oncology, ENT, Internal Medicine, Colon and urology surgeries. She later went on and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing,  in which she graduated with honors in 2009 and a Master of Science in Nursing from  Texas Woman University in 2014.  Marcy is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing.

Her extensive training and broad nursing experience makes her a valuable team member at our Pain management clinic 

Jennifer Race, NP

Is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner originally from Memphis, Tennessee. She began her pursuit of nursing at the University of Mississippi in 2004 and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Memphis Loewenberg School of Nursing in 2009. She moved to Dallas in 2009 to begin her career as a Registered Nurse at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center on a Cardiovascular/Thoracic surgery unit where she gained experience with LVAD and heart/lung transplant care. She then began graduate school at Texas Woman’s University in 2011 and ultimately received her Master of Science in Nursing in 2013 as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and has been working as a NP in Pain Management since 2014. She has vast knowledge of acute and chronic pain conditions, interventional therapies for pain management, and actively participates in continuing education to stay up to date with treatment options for her patients.
